Workshops
The guild typically organizes one or more workshops each year. Although guild members get
first priority, if additional spots remain in any workshop, non-members may sign up. Higher
fees may be charged for non-members.
Upcoming workshops
TAPESTRY WORKSHOP - Mar 14 with Nancy Sharples
HMWG member Nancy Sharples will be offering a Tapestry Weaving workshop on Saturday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, March 15, from noon to 4 p.m. at a location to be finalized. Cost is $150 per person and includes all materials. Class is limited to a maximum of 12 students. Learn to weave a variety of tapestry techniques on a small foam core loom. Students will weave boxes with both slits and interlocking edges, angles, curves, hatching, weft rep, sumac and color blending. Each student will create a small tapestry incorporating these types of tapestry building blocks. We’ll discuss making a larger tapestry loom and work on individual designs to see what types of designs will be successful and which might cause difficulties. We will also look at a wide range of historic and contemporary tapestries and see how they were woven. Please bring small scissors and any specialty yarn you might want to incorporate in your piece. Looms and tapestry yarn will be supplied by the instructor.
CRIMP & CREATE - May 14-16 with Dianne Totten
This is an on-loom workshop taking fiber in a new direction by creating “crimp cloth.” Learn to create fabric with permanently crimped designs that hold their memory even when washed. Apply this stash-busting technique to any threading and learn the thought process that will lead to endless possibilities for creating magic cloth. Participants will draft, weave, and crimp their samples in class. Learn how the fabric can be used for one-size fits-all garments that flatter any figure, scarves and shawls that won’t slide off your shoulders, and knit-look ribbing for a sweater or jacket collar. Garment design and sewing tips are included. Skill level: Adventurous beginner and beyond.
Student equipment required: Minimum of 4 shafts necessary; 8 or more shafts is even better!
Not a round-robin.
Maximum # of students: 20
