HMWG member Nancy Sharples will be offering a Tapestry Weaving workshop on Saturday, March 14, from 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, March 15, from noon to 4 pm. Workshop will be held at the Shaker Heritage Society, 25  Meeting House Rd, Albany.

Cost: We anticipate a minimum workshop fee of $117/student and potentially as high as $175/student if we do not fill the class. All materials will be provided by the instructor and are included in the workshop cost. You will pay a deposit of $117 and may need to make a second payment later depending on final calculated costs.

Class is limited to a maximum of 12 students. A minimum of 8 students is required to run the class.

Learn to weave a variety of tapestry techniques on a small foam core loom. Students will weave boxes with both slits and interlocking edges, angles, curves, hatching, weft rep, sumac and color blending. Each student will create a small tapestry incorporating these types of tapestry building blocks. We’ll discuss making a larger tapestry loom and work on individual designs to see what types of designs will be successful and which might cause difficulties. We will also look at a wide range of historic and contemporary tapestries and see how they were woven. Please bring small scissors and any specialty yarn you might want to incorporate in your piece.
